Telstra’s Muru-d Accelerator – Four Months On !

muru-d-logoJoin us on Monday night as we hear from muru-d (https://muru-d.com) co-founder & veteran startup accelerator/mentor Ann Parker (http://www.linkedin.com/pub/ann-parker/19/329/789) about the muru-d program (“muru” means “path” in the local eora dialect, appropriately enough).

Haven’t heard of muru-d ? Get out from under that rock ! In October last year Telstra put its entrepreneurial money-where-its-mouth-is and offered $40K and 6 months of mentoring to aspiring digital businesses. At its launch event, the ethos of muru-d was neatly summarized by Federal Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull as follows:

“…getting people to understand, not just the entrepreneurs with the ideas and the imagination, but also their backers and supporters… that there is actually almost no such thing as failure. You have to recognise that the whole business of innovation is in large measure an exercise in trial and error.”

Safesite_Logotype_300pxFirst up, we welcome Peter & James from SafeSite who’ve come up with a “site safety management system coordinated entirely on smart digital devices”.

A blindingly obvious yet sublime idea to save lives in the building industry (apparently 25 people die every week in the US industry alone) the SafeSite guys will pitch us their startup (entrepreneurs pay attention, this is what they’ve been rehearsing and they’re good!), demo their product with a live walkthrough, and then talk about what motivated them, what they need to move forwards (references to building sites!) and how the muru-d process has been for them.

A great example of how smart devices are fundamentally transforming work.

chattykidz-logoNext up, Ken from ChattyKidz will reveal that while he loves his kids, they also “annoy the hell” out of him, inspiring him to create a way for grandparents and absent family-members to remotely babysit children giving him a chance to grab a beer.

In fact, he’s discovered an amazingly high-engagement and super-worthy user experience which brings family members closer together. Literally, a digital version of “It takes a village to raise a child”, come along and check out Ken’s killer pitch and demo, and marvel in some of the adjacent media & publishing opportunities he’s uncovered.
